This Is The End – Comedy of the Summer – Review

this is the end
This is the End is easily the funniest adult comedy since The Hangover (2009).
Two truly star-worthy performances balance the film’s wild apocalyptic storyline and manic energy. The Office’s Craig Robinson and Eastbound & Down’s Danny McBride eclipse anything they have done on the big screen before.
There is also a host of fun cameos, including singer Rhianna, actors Channing Tatum, Paul Rudd, and Jason Segel, and comedians Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling, and Aziz Ansari. Harry Potter’s Emma Watson has a wild turn. But it’s “adorable” Michael Sera who skewers his reputation. It has to be seen to be believed.
Everyone is having fun with themselves and their public persona (everyone is playing themselves in the film). Jokes come at a furious pace, with characters often screaming insults at each other. This is a very perverted “Bringing Up Baby” or “Philadelphia Story” with a little “Exorcist” thrown in.
Writer/directors Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen have made some great comedies before (SuperBad a near classic). This is their best. The movie zips along, never lagging despite some pretty heavy special effects for a full-blown raunchy comedy.
I can’t imagine a better comedy coming in 2013 than this one.
Not appropriate for kids or adults who are prone to be offended.
